Gifting is no easy task, especially if the people you love don’t have much space for gifts to begin with. Alas, it is hard to relish in finding the perfect coffee table book, vintage trinket, or lush greenery when you know it will have nowhere to go at your giftee’s home.

Meet Bex (@bex.plants)! She is a multi-disciplinary creator, art director, and self-dubbed “Plant Lady”. On top of all that? Bex knows how to make the most of small spaces. As a Bay Area-based art director, she spends a lot of time working from her one-bedroom apartment and is always on the lookout for highly functional products that are also aesthetically pleasing.

She said, “I spend a lot of my time working from home, so it's very important to me to create a space that I not only feel comfortable in but that is also an environment that inspires me. I love to incorporate bright colors, lots of plants, and sentimental knickknacks throughout my home.”

Coincidentally, Bex’s search for a shoe rack that fit her small-space and met her aesthetic standard was how she found Yamazaki Home’s products (to be exact, she found and uses Yamazaki Home’s 31” Tower Shoe Rack).

Since Bex uses her home to work, create, host and relax, her space not only needs to fit her sentimental favorites, it needs to accommodate whatever her busy life has in store.

She said, “I am always looking for solutions to maximize space and increase storage, while still maintaining personality in my home. Some of my favorite items include the C Side Table which is great for holding my favorite movie snacks while lounging on our couch, which can also be stowed away easily to save space, and the Two-Tier Rolling Plant Stand. As a plant lover I am always looking for excuses to get more plants and show them off, and the rolling feature is super convenient for when I need to move my plants around for sunlight or watering time.”

This time of year, Bex said, “I love getting together with my whole family, listening to holiday music, and eating everything! My family really knows how to throw a potluck and I love how we have a mix of traditional Thai dishes along with classic American holiday foods.

With the holiday season in full swing, we asked Bex to curate a gift guide with fellow small-space havers in mind. She expertly curated accessories and designs that both meet her creative taste and maximize small spaces.

“It's very important to me to create a space that I not only feel comfortable in but also an environment that inspires me. I love to incorporate bright colors, lots of plants, and sentimental knickknacks throughout my home.”

What elevates a gift from good to exceptional, though? Bex said, “I think the perfect gift is always something meaningful and useful. Extra points if it's something that has sentimental value too!”.
