A Father's Day Conversation with Daniel Wilber: Finding Joy in the Everyday

Daniel Wilber shares how Yamazaki Home products bring joy to everyday life—and how he celebrates Father’s Day with four generations.

In honor of Father’s Day, we sat down with designer, dad, and longtime Yamazaki Home fan, Daniel Wilber. A design devotee interested in the intersection of design, technology, and commerce, Wilber co-founded the multidisciplinary design and technology studio Bondfire Inc.. From their base in Ojai, California the Bondfire team (@bondfireinc) craft strategic design systems and develop e-commerce platforms for a variety of distinguished brands.

Leading up to Father's Day we spoke with Wilber about fatherhood, family, and creating a happy home harmony. From a serendipitous search for a Japanese breadbox to a home filled with thoughtful design, he shares how the simplicity and elegance of Yamazaki Home products support his life as a father—and why the small, quiet corners of family life matter most.

Wilber's journey with Yamazaki Home started in a moment of household chaos familiar to many parents. “We had just moved into a new rental,” he said. “It was around 2010 when Kondo-mania was sweeping the USA. I felt inspired to introduce some order into our pantry.”

That search for calm led him to his first Yamazaki Home product: the Bread Box. A simple solution that, in many ways, has become a symbol of lasting joy in his home. “We still use it. There’s something so satisfying about the texture of the metal and the magnet latch—it brings a small moment of joy every day.”

From there Wilber brought other Yamazaki Home designs into the home. He said the next solution brought into the home was “the Dish Rack, which has been a mainstay next to the sink, along with the Water Bottle Drying Rack. We also love the little Tosca Shelves for organizing the coffee bar.

Today, Daniel estimates that he owns dozens of Yamazaki Home pieces—organized throughout his kitchen, pantry, bathrooms, kids’ rooms, and even the garage.

What keeps Daniel coming back to Yamazaki Home products?

“It’s the essentialist design. The forms and materials are very restrained, but that simplicity allows a beautiful balance of shape and function to come through.” In his words, Yamazaki products “completely recede when you don’t need them, but are a joy to interact with when you do.”

This Father’s Day, Daniel plans to continue a cherished tradition—bringing together four generations of Wilber men under one roof. “I’m fortunate to still have my grandfather and father nearby,” he says. “We try to align a visit like this around Father’s Day.” From there, he’s looking forward to a day packed with family adventures, whether it’s the beach, Dodger Stadium, or museum-hopping. “Anything that leaves us wiped out but with full hearts.”

He keeps Father's Day breakfast simple and substantial: soft scrambled eggs, toast with jam, sausage, and good coffee. “The kids are old enough to help now, which is a nice perk.”

His best advice for making Father’s Day unforgettable? Take the photo.

"As I watch my kids get older, I tend to find myself scrolling back through old photos remembering the different years together. I used to roll my eyes when the camera was whipped out, however now I feel differently. The day itself will come and go, but capturing a few moments, whether small or big, now provides a lasting memory to enjoy for years to come."

Daniel’s Guide for Father’s Day Gifts That Make a (Quiet) Statement

When it comes to finding the perfect Father’s Day gift, Wilber said, “Both the shoe rack and hanging hat organizer are great additions to the closet. The Tablet or Laptop Stand for the desk, and the Over-the-Door Fitness Equipment Hanger for the home gym.”

Each piece, like his favorite breadbox, brings a little more ease to daily life. Be sure to check out our Father's Day Gift Guide for more fan-favorite selections for dad.

For Wilber, the beauty of Yamazaki Home lies in how it elevates the “monotonous details” of life. He quotes a Spanish saint to explain:

"It is in the simplicity of your ordinary work, in the monotonous details of each day, that you have to find the secret … of something great and new: Love."

From all of us at Yamazaki Home, Happy Father’s Day to Daniel and dads everywhere—may your day be full of adventure, scrambled eggs, and a well-organized coffee bar.
