What starts a journey to minimalism? And what are the benefits of leading a minimalist lifestyle. Devin VonderHaar from @the.modern.minimalist. walks us through these answers and more.

What sparked your minimalist journey?

I like to say I was forced into minimalism because we had to massively downsize from a 1,500 square foot home to a 700 square foot apartment. Everything that wouldn’t fit in the U-haul had to go, and we basically started over in Portland. As we created our new life in Portland, we had to be much more intentional with every item that came into our home, with very little space to work with.

Yamazaki Home's products are thoughtfully made, and that is evident without explanation. They enhance your living space and the functionality of the home in a harmonious way.

What does minimalism mean to you?

Minimalism is freedom to me. When you aren’t tied down to things, you experience freedom. You gain financial freedom, a less stressful living space, and more room for creativity. These are the things that truly matter. Creating more room for joy. Now I help others embrace the principles of minimalism through holistic home decluttering, organizing, and styling.

How does Yamazaki Home play a role for you helping your clients get organized?

Yamazaki, through their designs, embrace the principles of minimalism. I find that color can be visually over-stimulating, so primarily using white and light wood tones is the perfect complement to a calming space. The products are thoughtfully made, and that is evident without explanation. They enhances your living space and the functionality of the home in a harmonious way.

What is your favorite Yamazaki Home product to use with clients?

By far my favorite home product are the Tosca bins. Multipurpose, beautiful design, and sturdy. I use them in all types of spaces, but most frequently in kitchens and bathrooms.
